Two prize-winning projects by the Urban Ecology Laboratory of Reunion Island in Paris

The 12th "Habitat solaire, Habitat d'aujourd'hui"competition rewarded on Wednesday evening, in Paris, two achievements of the laboratoire d’écologie urbaine (LEU) de la Réunion. La case Démété in Saint-Denis is a demonstration house presenting various bioclimatic and energy devices. It was built by CBO and implemented by (in addition to LEU) the companies APA and 2APMR. It is the modern archetype of the Reunionese house with reinvented verandahs, sun louvers and sunbreakers. Neither heating nor air-conditioning, but photovoltaic glass roof and wind turbine... The second award-winning work is more important as it is a complex of 66 social housing units and 350m² of office space in downtown Saint-Pierre. Here again, insulated and ventilated thermo-cooling panels, air mixers and solar collectors ensure good bioclimatization. The city produces 25% of its electricity needs. For information, only the 10m² computer room is air-conditioned...
